How it works.
Distance Learning.
Established in 1992 as an independent training institute, IMBOLC offers a uniquely designed distance learning Study Course on Western Magic.
Our students come from all backgrounds, genders, ways of life and are educated, trained, and mentored in the occult, hermetic and magical arts and sciences.
We concentrate on the individual development of each student, which is why we are not a magical organization in the classical sense, let alone a magical order or lodge. We do not hold affiliations to any other occult organisation.
On Magical Theory.
Our training is marked by a balance of Practice and Theory of Western Magic.
Guiding students for more than three decades has confirmed that to master the occult craft ongoing first-hand experience has to go hand in hand with a thorough grounding in the underpinning frameworks.
This means our Study Course includes mandatory lesson plans on the History of Western Magic just as much as on philosophical, psychological or scientific theories. We teach magic as it manifests all the way from Apollonius of Tyana to Paul Watzlawick.
And Practice that Works.
We understand magic as a genuine craft that does not exist unless it is actively practiced.
Above everything, our Study Course focusses on empowering each student to become the best version of themselves, both within the magical circle and in their everyday lives.
Each lesson plan provides powerful magical exercises or rituals; these are put into practice by each student alone. Our mentors offer feedback and advise, but will never demonstrate magical practice. Experiencing self-efficacy is critical for our training.
How it works.
Our Study Course consists of four courses, which are divided into multiple lesson plans (Teaching Letters). The entire content was designed to both align to the grades of the old guilds as well as to the Sephiroth of the kabbalistic Tree of Life (see table).
We define a minimum study time per course, which can be extended as per each student’s preference. There are no hidden costs to our Study Course, and all details can be found in our price list. Just like with many other education institutions, our students pay each semester (half year) in advance. They can cancel their training at any time, effective to the end of the current semester.
We do not offer or train magical group work, but each student works through the practical and theoretical material by themselves. Once they feel sufficiently prepared, they take a mandatory practical and theoretical exam, which is conducted remotely. Supervision and Mentoring by magical experts is offered alongside.
